I did it! And I love it!
I woke up early this past Saturday morning with butterflies in my stomach because I knew that in the afternoon, I was going to be staring at a slightly different person in the mirror. You could say that my hair has been my security blanket over the years – always dark brown, long, and “safe.” But I have to say that as soon as I stepped into Population, I felt at ease and even more so when I met my stylist and salon owner, Brian. The salon was busy, but organized and I felt welcomed by all those who worked there. Brian proceeded to dry cut my hair (faster, yet more precise than I’ve ever seen someone cut it, by the way) and took his time carefully executing his balayage technique. Four hours later, I was transformed and smiling from ear to ear.
Ladies (and those men who may be reading this), if you’re searching for a new salon, don’t hesitate to call Population. Bonus: They’re opening up their second salon in the Mission in a few weeks!
You guys. I’m doing something that I’ve wanted to do for a long, long time, but never had the courage to do: a major hair makeover. Well, to be honest, it’s not really that major to most people. If you don’t know already, I have virgin hair (roots colored once months ago because, sadly, I’m getting older the grays are rising). Yep, that’s right – I’ve never colored or done anything “crazy” to my hair otherwise.
That’s until tomorrow afternoon. The gorgeous people at Population in San Francisco have invited me to get my hair done by the salon’s owner, Brian Belier, and since I was given the opportunity, I’m going to push my own boundaries and treat myself to a little change. I’m thinking a decent 4″ off the bottom and caramel/blonde balayage throughout. Thoughts?
Follow me on Instagram, if you’re not already, as I’ll be sharing my “transformation” as it happens tomorrow!

I recently bought these shorts and I can’t stop wearing them. Yes, they’re extremely distressed (typically out of my comfort zone), but I love their boyfriend fit and the attitude they carry with them. I’m already trying to plan out winter outfits around them: chunky knit sweater with flat over-the-knee boots and topped off with a wool hat.
