Spring Vibes: Lighter Hair & Old Jeans

Sweater: SystemAction, Barcelona | Jeans: Genetic Denim | Shoes: Givenchy | Purse: Leah Lerner, c/o | Watch: GUESS, c/o | Sunglasses: zeroUV, c/o

Spring is here in San Francisco (well, we never really had a winter) and the sunshine inspired me to go just a tad bit lighter with my hair – and, my gosh, I kind of love it. Coloring my hair is still a pretty big deal to me, as the first time I colored it was only 7 months ago, so for someone who has had dark brown hair for almost 30 years, this is quite a change. A huge, huge thank you to my stylist, Brian, at Population Salon for his amazing work. And congrats to them for opening up their second salon in the Mission! Local SF girls and guys, check them out – you won’t be disappointed!

Another thing I love about spring? The fact that I can pull out these jeans again. They’re about four years old and I’m still obsessed with them. It’s probably because they’re so long that I have to wear my highest platforms (5 inches high), causing my legs to look extra long (and leaving my co-workers wondering how I grew so much overnight).

PS: Behind the smile is a girl that got hit with a really, really bad cold/flu/bronchitis (really not sure what it is because I’m kind of bad about seeing a doctor unless I’m extremely, extremely ill). I had to stay home for half the week last week and I’m still coughing up some pretty nasty things a week later. Kind of makes me wonder if I should have gotten the flu shot after all…

Messy Hair Days

Sleeveless Trench

Ever have one of those really –  I mean really – crazy hair days? I do. My hair is neither curly nor straight and definitely requires some sort of maintenance in order to make it look presentable. I’m also not a morning person, so you can guess that I have my  share of mornings where I’m rushing out the door for my hour commute to work with wet hair in a bun or a side braid. And for those days where I can’t even manage to make those work, I have found that I have an insane love for hats.

4 Ways to Unwind at Home with the HP x360

I’ve partnered with HP to test out their new X360 laptop. HP is currently traveling with Meghan Trainor for her “That Bass” Tour. Click here to follow along the tour, see how HP bends the rules, and access behind-the-scenes tour footage (hair, makeup, choreography, + more!).

One of the most-important (yet one of the hardest) lessons I’ve learned over the last year is that I need to make sure I fit a little bit of “me” time into my sometimes overwhelming schedule. Needless to say, I’ve been struggling to stay on top of work, this blog, my health, fitness, relationships, and just life in general. With so many deadlines, meetings, appointments, celebrations, dinners, and all of the other important, yet time-consuming tasks that I add to my calendar, finding the time to unwind has definitely been pushed down to the bottom of my priority list.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m a Capricorn (and proud). This means I thrive being busy, setting goals for myself, working on projects, and seeing results. But I have also come to learn that none of that can be achieved without recharging my “me” battery at least once every couple of weeks. So what does this mean? For me, working out, sleeping, and being around people I love is, of course, fulfilling and incredibly special. However, what really, really makes me happy and relaxed is one of the most simple things I could do for myself: enjoy being at home.

Inspired by the new innovative HP X360 which can be used in 4 modes – laptop, tablet, tent, and stand – I want to share my 4 favorite ways to unwind at home:

  1. Clean. I’m serious. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m my mother’s daughter or because I’m quickly approaching my 30s, but I find the entire process of cleaning my apartment extremely therapeutic and rewarding. When I’m done organizing, vacuuming, doing laundry, and dusting, I love opening up all of the blinds in my apartment and letting fresh air in.
  2. Sit still and make peace with quiet. I feel like I’m always on the go, especially during the week (remember those Energizer Bunny commercials?). That’s why I try to savor those quiet moments I get to myself at home. And it’s not always easy to be okay with quiet especially when you’re home alone (or love a good, loud Beyonce dance session like I do), but there’s so much beauty in hearing your own thoughts and nothing else.
  3. Drink coffee in bed. And truly enjoy every sip of it. We live in a culture where multitasking is expected, but instead of pouring your coffee in your favorite to-go mug and rushing off to run an errand, get back in bed with your favorite cup and take 10 minutes to mentally prepare for the day – or use the time to catch up on Facebook/Instagram/The Skimm.
  4. Binge on Netflix & Hulu. This is where I pull the #treatyoself card. I recently got rid of my TV cable service to save some money and love both of these. Be okay with “wasting” a few hours to watch every episode of a show you discover or watching the entire Sex and the City series for the 15th time. Why? Because you enjoy it and deserve it, darn it. (Psst…if you have any recommendations of a good show, please leave me a comment!)

What are some of your favorite ways to unwind after a hectic week?
